My name is Maria Carino. I am a graphic designer who specializes in print, packaging, and logo design. I also enjoy creating 3-dimensional sketches of homes, interior spaces, custom cabinetry, etc.
Education and Early Work: I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Brigham Young University in 1990. After graduating, I worked as a freelance designer for several design firms in the Seattle Area including Hunter Tavernor and Lacoma, Hornall Anderson, and Tim Girvin Design. In 1994 I took a full-time job at Sierra On-Line, a computer game and software company. In 1996 I moved to Nordstrom Advertising where I worked until my daughter was born in 2001. After the birth of my daughter, I took a break from working full-time but kept up my skills by doing the occasional freelance job and volunteering at my daughter’s school and church.
Home and Interior Design in 3-D: Beginning in 2014 my husband and I took on the task of building a home in the Cle Elum area. We took a very hands on approach, hiring an architect to create our vision and taking over management of the job at the drywall stage. We custom designed all of the cabinetry, venetian plastered the walls, built barn doors and metal-clad exterior doors, and chose and purchased all of the finishes. In the process I discovered Sketchup, a 3-d drawing program. I loved being able to bring tight sketches to a vendor and seeing my creations come to life! In 2016 I also took a Sketchup Class at Bellevue College to build upon my new interest.
It Takes a Villiage: 2020 brought both the pandemic and my daughter’s high-school graduation. That fall and the following year I home-schooled a kindergartener and a 2nd grader from my home—an experience that I absolutely loved! During the 2021-22 school year, I continued in the field of education by taking a job at a private elementary school in Bellevue, Wa. That year I also started creating educational content and posting it on Teachers Pay Teachers and took on a freelance design client in the healthcare space.
I’ve always been interested in getting back into design full time, but knew I needed to convert my physical portfolio into an on-line version. This website fills that need. A sampling of my work can be found under the “WORK” tab. If you would like to see a complete resume, please let me know by contacting me with the info on my “CONTACT” page.
Cheers!
